SSQ's commitment to the community translates, among other things, into financial support for various organizations and events across Canada. Some examples include:
United Way Centraide
United Way Centraide supports a vast number of community organizations that help people and families living in poverty or social exclusion to get back on their feet, become active members of society, and live with respect and dignity. SSQ Insurance supports United Way Centraide all across Canada, and particularly in the cities where its offices are located.
Centre Durocher is a community recreational centre, offering an environment devoted to the well-being of the residents of Quebec City's lower town. SSQ Insurance is supporting a new project entitled l'Été Durocher that aims to take kids off the street and guide them to become citizens of tomorrow.
One of the goals of this project is to educate 9 to 12 year-olds about neighbourhood life and increase their sense of belonging, while providing a supervised environment and a safe place to play and learn.
Diplôme avant la médaille
The Diplôme avant la médaille program promotes perseverance and academic success of students at risk of dropping out by introducing them to sport and personalized support, as they strongly believe that all young people have the capacity and the right to the best of what the future has to offer. For example, 9 in10 students who have received support have obtained their highschool diplomas or are in the process of obtaining them.
SSQ Insurance supports FitSpirit, an organization whose mission is to introduce young Canadians between the ages of 12 and 17 to the benefits and enjoyment of exercise. The organization aspires to be a major influence among teenage girls in Canada in terms of physical fitness. SSQ Insurance’s involvement entails the participation of a member of senior management on the fundraising committee as well as the volunteer work by its employees during activities like the Father-Daughter Ball and the Celebration events.
The CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation
The CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation's mission is to offer children and mothers care that is among the best in the world. Today, Sainte-Justine is the biggest mother-child teaching hospital in Canada, and the second in North America.
Fondation du CHU de Québec
The mission of the Fondation du CHU de Québec is to provide financial support to the development of the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec, a teaching hospital located in Quebec City. It lends support to a number of research projects including Seinbiose, the objective of which is to develop made-to-measure external breast prostheses as an alternative for women who undergo a mastectomy.
The Fondation OLO helps unborn children get a good and healthy start in life by offering personalized assistance and nutritional support. The foundation provides nutritious food to expectant mothers on a daily basis to help improve their diet: a litre of milk, an egg, a glass of orange juice and vitamin and mineral supplements. Together with stakeholders from health institutions and community organizations, the OLO Fondation helps families build and maintain healthy eating habits before and after the birth of a child.
Le Grand Chemin
SSQ Insurance supports La Fondation Le Grand Chemin, whose mission is to support Le Grand Chemin centres in their mandate to provide specialized services for treating drug and alcohol addiction, gambling and cyberdependence of Quebec teenagers aged 12 to 17. A member of SSQ Insurance’s senior management sits on the foundation’s board, a clear demonstration of our company’s resolve to help young people adopt healthy lifestyle habits.
Les escaliers ça marche SSQ
SSQ Insurance is a proud partner of the Escaliers ça marche SSQ initiative, organized by the Mon équilibre UL team and Laval University’s healthy lifestyle program. As a contributor to the university’s major fundraising campaign, SSQ Insurance is pleased to support this event. It’s also a part of SSQ Insurance’s HealthWise program.
SSQ Quebec City Marathon and the Marathon SSQ de Longueuil
SSQ is the title sponsor of the SSQ Quebec City Marathon and the Marathon SSQ de Longueuil. SSQ Insurance sees this collaboration as a way to contribute to the wellbeing of the community and encourage healthy lifestyle choices. It also wants to give back to the community by inviting its employees and their families to participate in these events and help raise funds for a local cause whose activities are geared to young people.
Pignon Bleu - A house to grow
The Le Pignon Bleu is a community organization that helps low-income families in Quebec City's Saint-Sauveur district. It offers assistance with homework, community cooking services and a work insertion program for unemployed adults.
SSQ Insurance supports Pignon Bleu by letting it use part of the house that belonged to the founder of SSQ Insurance.
SOCODEVI (Société de coopération pour le développement international) is a network of cooperative and mutualist organizations that shares its experience and know-how with its partners in developing countries in order to create, protect and distribute resources.
As a founding member of SOCODEVI, SSQ Insurance actively participates in promoting the cooperative model around the world.
North York Women's Shelter
The North York Women's Shelter provides a safe place for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence and abuse. A variety of programs and services are available to help these women regain control.
With its contribution to the Grande campagne de l’Université Laval, SSQ Insurance supports the Mon Équilibre UL program, a strategic research partnership in digital customer experience, as well as the Rouge et Or Volleyball Club.
Mon Équilibre UL
This program helps students and faculty members make healthy lifestyle decisions, maintain or improve their overall health for success at school and in life. Every year, Mon Équilibre UL organizes the Les escaliers ça marche SSQ, presented by SSQ Insurance.
