SSQ Insurance offers rebate to its auto insurance clientele

SSQ Insurance is offering all its clients with auto insurance policies a 20% rebate on their monthly premium for each insured vehicle, a measure enabling the insurer to pass on substantial savings to its insureds.

Many people have considerably reduced their travel due to confinement and social distancing measures, because they are working from home or have lost their jobs, all factors that have an impact on the claims experience. Others must continue to travel because they are essential workers, particularly those in the healthcare system, caring for seniors or in law enforcement.

"We are sensitive to the impacts of the pandemic on the population as a whole and we applaud everyone's efforts to comply with the government’s COVID-19 guidelines. To demonstrate our solidarity with our community of insureds, and in keeping with our mutualist values, we will support all of our auto insurance clients equally, regardless of whether or not they have reduced their mileage,” said SSQ Insurance’s Chief Executive Officer Jean-François Chalifoux.

The 20% rebate on the monthly auto insurance premium will apply as of April 1, 2020, and will cover the entire confinement period as it stands now. The insurer’s clientele will not be required to take any steps to get the rebate, nor will insureds need to contact the insurer to temporarily change the annual mileage they had previously declared.

The rebate is in addition to a series of relief measures that have already been put in place to help SSQ Insurance’s P&C insurance members and clients during the pandemic:

  • Flexible payment options.
  • No fees charged by the insurer for NSF cheques or pre-authorized payments.
  • Use of an insured vehicle for volunteer work or delivery purposes automatically covered with no impact on premiums, without the insured having to inform the insurer.

Also, professional activities carried out at home during the pandemic do not have to be declared and will not affect home insurance premiums.

SSQ Insurance has also provided for free access to a telephone counselling service for all its clients across Canada who may be suffering from anxiety, feelings of discouragement or increased stress related to the pandemic.
