Change in leadership at SSQ Financial Group
SSQ Financial Group has announced the retirement of its CEO, René Hamel, to take effect by the end of the year.
“I wish to emphasize the remarkable career of René Hamel since joining SSQ in 1986, particularly, the last seven years during which he skillfully served as company CEO," said Pierre Genest, Chairman of the Board of SSQ Financial Group.
A seasoned and much appreciated executive, René Hamel has over 35 years of experience. Since joining SSQ Financial Group in 1986, he has held senior management positions in general insurance, life and health insurance and investment and retirement. In addition to managing all SSQ Financial Group’s activities and instigating its expansion across Canada, René Hamel’s leadership is exemplified by his social commitment, including his 2013 tenure as co-president of the Centraide/United Way campaign for the Quebec City and Chaudière-Appalaches region and his involvement in the industry, including as a member of the boards of directors of the Canadian Association of Health Insurance (CLHIA), the Regroupement des assureurs à charte du Québec (RACQ), the Centre de développement en assurances et services financiers de Québec (CDASF) and the Assuris consulting committee.
Following this announcement, a rigorous process to replace René Hamel was initiated and the appointment of a new CEO is expected promptly to ensure a smooth transition.
