Pignon Bleu: 25 years and 20,000 lives later

For its 25th anniversary, Pignon Bleu is taking a walk down memory lane to revisit the significant impacts it has had on children and families in Quebec City. This organization, of which SSQ is a long-standing supporter, has come to the aid of over 20,000 children since its creation 25 years ago.

Located in Quebec City, Pignon Bleu's mission is to fight hunger and poverty by providing development opportunities to children and families living in low-income neighbourhoods. This organization also helps the unemployed get training and find work. Since 1991, Pignon Bleu has:

  • Prepared more than 10 million healthy snacks for 20,000 children enrolled in more than 30 elementary schools and after-school programs, making sure that every child gets the sustenance needed to be able to learn and participate.
  • Served 400,000 healthy meals to 2,500 low-income families at its Resto-Pop, while teaching them about food and nutrition.
  • Offered more than 200 days of educational activities per year to 2,000 children.
  • Enabled more than 700 unemployed people to return to the job market.

On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, Pignon Bleu also unveiled its new brand image, under the auspices of Ms. Agnès Maltais, Taschereau Deputy Minister, as well as the administrators, children, employees, volunteers, clients and partners. Everyone was invited to tour the offices at an open-house activity, during which the many projects realized in the last year were presented.

Maison SSQ

Soon after its inception in 1996, the SSQ Foundation purchased and restored the home of its founder, Dr. Jacques Tremblay. It was offered to Pignon Bleu to be used for their educational workshops on nutrition. Today, it is called Maison SSQ. Through this initiative, SSQ is proud to contribute to community wellness.
