Rooftop Garden at SSQ Insurance

In addition to having a green roof on the SSQ Tower in Longueuil, SSQ Insurance will now have its own urban garden. This summer, the roof of the SSQ building at 2505 Laurier Boulevard will be used to grow fruits, vegetables and herbs. It’s a sustainable development initiative that will enable us to give back to the community.

With this urban agriculture project, SSQ Insurance is taking tangible steps to reduce the effects of urban heat islands. The work on the garden will begin in May. In addition to promotion biodiversity, it will help to add colour and greenery to the cityscape. This initiative fits perfectly with SSQ Insurance’s sustainable development and societal responsibility plan, and is in line with the company’s environmental concerns.

In collaboration with Les Urbainculteurs, a company that has been working on making agriculture more productive and accessible since 2009, this project will also allow SSQ Insurance to give back to the community by donating the harvested produce to a community organization in Quebec City.

“This agriculture project is a way for SSQ Insurance to show how ‘communities make us.’  We want to contribute to our future and that of future generations by initiating eco-friendly projects that will also benefit the community,” said Jean-François Chalifoux, Chief Executive Officer of SSQ Insurance.
