I am confined or am working from home

Auto insurance customers – SSQ Insurance is offering you a 20% rebate on the monthly premium of each insured vehicle. You are entitled regardless of whether you are confined or an essential worker.

What period does the auto insurance rebate cover?

The rebate is calculated based on the period from April 1, 2020, to June 30, 2020.

Who is eligible for the rebate on auto insurance premiums?

This measure applies to all our insureds who have personal or commercial auto insurance coverage.

Many people have considerably reduced their travel due to confinement and social distancing measures, because they are working from home or have lost their jobs, all factors that have an impact on the claims experience.

Others must continue to travel because they are essential workers, particularly those in the healthcare system, caring for seniors or in law enforcement. As a token of our appreciation for your vital contribution, we want you to benefit from the rebate too.

What is the amount of the rebate?

The 20% rebate on the monthly auto insurance premium will apply as of April 1, 2020, until June 30, 2020.

The amount may be confirmed only when deposited in your account or when your cheque is issued.

If, for example, the amount of your annual premium (including taxes) is $1,200, the rebate will be $20 per month (Premium = $1,200 / 12 months = $100 * 20% = $20).

What do I need to do to get my rebate?

You are not required to take any steps to get the rebate.

The payment method for the rebate depends on the one you used to pay your auto insurance premium.

How does the rebate work?

The 20% rebate on the monthly premium applies on all auto insurance policies in force on the first day of the following month.

For customers who use direct debit, the adjustment is applied on the next scheduled withdrawal, whether for current policies, renewals or balances due. In cases where there are no longer any scheduled withdrawals or balances due, a reimbursement will be deposited directly in their account during the month of July.

For customers who pay by cheque, the adjustment will be applied to all amounts due and if the policy is paid in full, a reimbursement will be made by cheque in July.

Additional delays due to slower postal services may occur.

To get reimbursed more quickly, you can sign up for pre-authorized debit by completing the form provided at ssq.ca/fr/adhesion-changement-dpa or by calling us at 1-866-264-6179. You must have a specimen cheque at hand.

What will my payments be as of August?

Given that the 20% rebate will no longer be applied to the monthly payments, the amount will correspond to the actual monthly premium and so will be higher than the last two months, which included the rebate.

What vehicles are eligible for the rebate?

The rebate applies to all vehicles insured under your policy including recreational vehicles (RVs).

Why end the rebate?

This measure was intended to compensate our insureds for the decrease in claims associated with the confinement

During the month of June, the Quebec government allowed a gradual return to activities. As a result, road traffic returned to normal and, consequently, the claims experience also returned to normal.

Can I continue to receive a premium reduction if I am still teleworking?

While teleworking continues for some of our insureds, we are aware that the use of vehicles has changed. This is why you can fill out the "Change your annual mileage" form to enable you to report the new actual use of your vehicle to us.

Can I use my personal vehicle for delivery?

As of July 1, deliveries made with a personal vehicle will only be covered if you have notified us.

If the use you make of your vehicle is different from what you were doing before the confinement, you must call us at 1-866-SSQ-AUTO to speak with one of our agents.

These modifications are essential in order to be properly covered and avoid problems in the event of a claim.

Do I have to call to report telework for my home insurance?

For home insurance, professional activities carried out at home during the pandemic do not have to be declared and will not affect insurance premiums.

Now that confinement has ended, the conditions and limitations set out in the contract apply normally.

You benefit from a minimum coverage of $3,000 on professional property at no additional charge under your home insurance contract.  If you have any questions about the conditions and limitations, you can contact us at 1-866-SSQ-AUTO to speak with one of our agents.
