I am being quarantined in Canada or abroad

Am I covered by my disability insurance if I am under mandatory quarantine at home?*

Yes, you are covered if the two following conditions are met:

  • You have a group insurance contract that includes short-term disability
  • You are showing symptoms of COVID-19 that prevent you from doing your job, even via telework.

* This information replaces the information in the previous memo.

Will my travel insurance cover my medical expenses if I contract COVID-19 and quarantined?

If no travel advisory was issued by the Canadian Government at the time of departure, your travel insurance will cover medical expenses.

If a level-3 travel advisory, including cruises, was issued by the Canadian Government at the time of departure, your travel insurance will not cover medical expenses.

If you booked a trip after March 13, trip cancellation and medical expenses will not be reimbursed. This will apply for as long as the travel advisory is in effect, even if the advisory moves from worldwide to regional.

Take note that, regardless of the situation, insureds who are considered essential travellers,  such as truckers, remain covered by their insurance policy.
