I am an essential worker and must use my vehicle

Auto insurance customers – SSQ Insurance is offering you a 20% rebate on the monthly premium of each insured vehicle. You are entitled regardless of whether you are confined or an essential worker.

Who is eligible for the rebate on auto insurance premiums?

This measure applies to all our insureds who have personal or commercial auto insurance coverage.

Many people have considerably reduced their travel due to confinement and social distancing measures, because they are working from home or have lost their jobs, all factors that have an impact on the claims experience.

Others must continue to travel because they are essential workers, particularly those in the healthcare system, caring for seniors or in law enforcement. As a token of our appreciation for your vital contribution, we want you to benefit from the rebate too.

What is the amount of the rebate?

The 20% rebate on the monthly auto insurance premium will apply as of April 1, 2020, and will cover the entire confinement period as it stands now*.

The amount may be confirmed only when deposited in your account or when your cheque is issued.

If, for example, the amount of your annual premium (including taxes) is $1,200, the rebate will be $20 per month (Premium = $1,200 / 12 months = $100 * 20% = $20).

*The confinement period will be considered ended on the first of the following two dates:
1 - At the end of the state of emergency declared by the government or
2 – On the date the government announces that a substantial segment of services and activities of the various sectors and businesses may resume.

When can I expect to get my first rebate?

The 20% rebate on the monthly premium for April will be applied to the withdrawals between May 7 and June 6 on all auto insurance policies in force on May 1, 2020.

This adjustment will be applied in the same manner for each month of confinement* for the monthly premium of the previous month.

*The confinement period will be considered ended on the first of the following two dates:
1 - At the end of the state of emergency declared by the government or
2 – On the date the government announces that a substantial segment of services and activities of the various sectors and businesses may resume.

What do I need to do to get my rebate?

You will not be required to take any steps to get the rebate, nor will you need to contact the insurer to temporarily change the annual mileage you previously declared.

The payment method for the rebate will depend on the one you used to pay your auto insurance premium.

How does the rebate work?

The 20% rebate on the monthly premium applies on all auto insurance policies in force on the first day of the following month.

For customers who use direct debit, the adjustment will be applied on the next scheduled withdrawal, whether for current policies, renewals or balances due. In cases where there are no longer any scheduled withdrawals or balances due, a reimbursement will be deposited directly in their account.

For customers who pay by cheque, the adjustment will be applied to all amounts due and if the policy is paid in full, a reimbursement will be made by cheque at the end of the confinement period*.

*The confinement period will be considered ended on the first of the following two dates: 1 - At the end of the state of emergency declared by the government or 2 – On the date the government announces that a substantial segment of services and activities of the various sectors and businesses may resume.

What vehicles are eligible for the rebate?
